We have ascertained that our Dooley's came from Co Galway early in the 18th century. However, several children were born in Co Mayo, so we are wondering whether we had any Dooley's living in Co Mayo. It is possible they were forcibly removed from their lands by the English and fled to Co Galway, where the English had very little interest in what they considered inferior agricultural land.
If anyone is related to the Dooley's from Co Mayo...I would love to hear from you.
Cheers

Hi Kerryn,
Thank you very much for your message. I hope that someone with information makes a connection with you and helps you to further your research.
In the meantime have you tried looking in the land records pertaining to Ireland in the 19th century to see where there were Dooley?s recorded in Mayo? It may help narrow down the search to some parishes. There are two:
The Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1838) found at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp
and Griffith?s Valuation (1848-1864) found at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
Kind regards,
