I did a lot of searching on Roots Ireland www.rootsireland.ie and also the civil birth and marriage indexes (for events after 1864) and can find no records for your ancestors.

Church records for Co. Mayo in the early part of the 19th century are not available. For example, the records for Oughaval parish (Westport) do not start until 1843. Accordingly, you there will be no records for Timothy Hobans parents or his first marriage record.

I am puzzled why I could not find any records for his younger children or any civil records for their marriages. Maybe they were not in Ireland.

let me know if you have any other info that might help. Thanks.

  • not sure if this is a connection or maybe some names passed down were mixed up somewhere along the line - the only Toole/Hoban couple I could find was a Patrick Toole & Mary Hoban, who show up in extracted civil birth records as parents to several chidren born 1876 to 1880 (Patrick, Dominick & John) in Roemore Co. Mayo - see : here

The place names in these extracted record can be a county or district, but in this case appears to be the name of a townland. The BMD Index record for these is Newport (later dissolved and absorbed into Westport district). There are two townlands named Roemore in Co. Mayo, but in this case the one located in Kilmeena civil parish is more likely a match (the other Roemore townland is near Castlebar). Kilmeena civil parish is on the coast and borders Oughaval civil parish which contains the town of Westport.

  • Hi Jim

Further to Roger's efforts, are you aware of the public member trees on ancestry which have this family?

There are 15 of them; BONNAZZOLI no 1 tree has Timothy Patrick Hoban born 1 July 1853 Drummin Mayo with 8 sources cited.

His parents were Patrick Hoban & Bridget Heraghty

I searched rootsireland for this marriage and found it in Mayo 1844.

roots is a subscription site; I can get the parish if you like but you need to subscribe to get the full record which MAY have their parents' names.

  • Shane,  Thank you for the information, I will check all this out and compare it with information that I have.  Even though all info I have leads to Co. Mayo I do remember my Mother talking about Co. limerick, were the Cotter's are from, and Co. Cork, how this may fit in I have no idea.  again thank you. and to all who have replied.

  • Sheila,

Your great great grandmother Mary Murphy would be my 1st cousin 2x removed, her mother Mary Hoban-Murphy would be my great great aunt.  If you have access to ancestry go to the breckels family tree and send contact info, the family tree would be in my sisters name Elizabeth Fortuna tho I maintain it.  I have not gotten that far down the Vanderhoff tree as of yet but I believe you would be my 4th cousin 1x removed.
