Hi all,

I have been able to trace my family to James Cunningham (born 1831) and Bridget (Peggy) Langan (born about 1831).  They were married in 1854, and were from Cashel.  Later, they moved to Castlenageeha (neighboring townland).  I believe that James' father was named John. I also believe that John Cunningham (Sr) was from county Armagh, and was an Ulster migrant in 1796, after the Battle of the Diamond.  I have the Tithe records for Kilcummin Parish (from about 1833) and an Edmd. Cuningham and Patt. Cunningham are listed as living in Cassel (Cashel, I believe). I also have records that a Edmd. Cunningham was an Ulster Migrant to the Ballina area.

James & Peggy had the following children (Bridget, Michael, Thomas, Mary, John Joseph, Peter, Martin, Catherine, Margaret). John Joseph Cunningham left Ireland and moved to Scranton PA in 1880 at the age of 16. Later, at least Martin, Catherine and a cousing Peter also came to the US.

Would like to connect with others and see if I can establish more details about James Cunningham and Bridget Langan.

John

  • Long ago post, but I have connected with quite a few descendents in America. I also traveled to County Mayo, and stayed with a cousin who lives on the land owned by the Cunninghams.

I have collected quite a bit on the Ulster migrants as well, and happy to share.
