My grandfather Patrick Malee was born 15 August 1871 in Kiltimagh, his parents were Patrick, born 1841, married Margaret Carolan, born 1841, on 16 May 1859 at ?Holy Family church. His siblings were Michael, born 1865, Catherine,1867,Margaret, 1873/4. They left Ireland after her birth and had Ellen in 1876 in Lancashire England. I would love to know if there is any information on their antecedents or indeed any family still in the area.
My other great great grandparents were Henry Kelly, born 1791, married to Esther ?, born 1801 they left Ireland in the 1820's. I have no idea how to try researching such a common name and English records only indicate they were Irish. Maybe someone has advice.

Hello cousin!
I'm related through Patrick Malee and Margaret Carolan too. I think they were in the Killedan parish rather than Knock though looking at the National Library of Ireland's Catholic records. I'm related through Margaret Malee who was born 1 Jul 1873 in Golbourne, Lancashire and died 18 May 1944 in Dalkeith, Midlothian, Scotland. I've added a photo of Margaret (sadly a photocopy of the original rather than a scan of the original itself).
There was another child born to Patrick and Margaret in Lancashire, Ann Malee, but she died as an infant in 1878. Patrick re-married after Margaret died to a lady called Mary Watson. Patrick and Mary had two children (half-siblings to our direct relatives) called Annie 1896 and Albert 1898.
Margaret had LOADS of children but very few survived into adulthood. I know that one of her grandchildren ended up moving back to Golbourne and married a Malee cousin, so part of our branch did go back to England.
I've done Ancestry DNA and in contact with another cousin related through both Patrick and Margaret. She, like yourself, is related through Patrick junior and through his daughter Alice Malee. It seems their branch remained in the North of England. My branch, however, moved up to the Lothians of Scotland when Margaret married and Englishman who was a coal and shale miner.
I've also found through DNA some Carolan cousins. They had a professional genealogist involved working on their tree. They've got back to a James Carolan who married Bridget Lynn in Kilmoremoy, Ballina, Mayo. James was noted on his marriage in 1824 as a "fiddle player". Unfortunately, I've yet to work out how Margaret Carolan links to them at the moment.
When I started researching about 8 years ago, I found a birth of a Margaret Carolan about the same age as ours. She was born in 1841 and her parents were Patrick Carolan and Mappy Munnelly. I'm not convinced this is correct now. As for Patrick Malee, I'm totally stumped, so was about to post asking about the same family and found your post.
I hope I've managed to give you some new information, but happy to help as I've been trying to map out the later family hoping something gives a clue to take us a bit further back.
Kindest regards
Áine

Hey bro,
I think you should go to the local authorities, they keep everyone's birth records so you can know that.
Good luck,
