My Grandfather was Thomas Andrew Mitchell (born about 1886) and I belive he came from the Kilvine Parish near Irishtown in CO Mayo.   The 1901 Irish Census shows the family as Father: Patrick Mitchell, Mother: Rose Mitchell (perhaps Griffen is her maiden name), then daughter/sons in order of age as Thomas, Patrick, Briget (maybe Rose), Sarah, Peter, Kate (Catherine) and then John (not listed as he was born around 1902).  I think that there was an older daughter named Maria who emmegrated to the U.S. in 1900 before the 1901 Census was conducted and eventually joined the convent in Poughkeepsie, New York.

Maria, Thomas, Patrick, Rose, Sarah, Peter and Kate all came to New York between 1900 and 1912.  I know that John stayed in Ireland.  He visited the U.S. in the 1960's and visited with many of his siblings where I met him as a small boy. The Siblings settled in Poughkeepsie, New York, Norwich, Conneticut and Thomas was a police cheif in Hardwick, Massachusetts for many years.

I'm trying to verifty that I have the correct location of where Thomas came from.  I'm trying to get a copy of his birth record and his baptism record.   I have someone looking for his birth record in Dublin. Any help with a baptism recored would be much appreciated.

Finally, I plan to visit Ireland next Summer and would love to connect with any decendants for lunch and a pint.

Thans in advance for your help

Cheers!

  • Mike:

Thomas was born in 1884 and below is the civil birth index record. I checked on Roots and verified that the parents were Patrick and Rose. I did not locate the baptismal record.

Let me know if I can assist further.
