Hello from NJ USA. I am seeking relatives in the Kilmovee area. My late mother, nee Ellen Moran, was b&r in Ballinrumpa.

My grandmother, nee Ellen O'Gara was from the Kilmovee area, and is buried there. She lived New York for 10 years...from 1890  - 1899 and returned then to Kilmovee. She married Michael Moran and lived in Ballinrumpa and had a family of 8.

The O'Gara family that she was from included a relative...Bishop Cuthbert O'Gara of the China  missions. The family also included my mother's 1st cousin, Mary Jane O'Gara, who worked as a nurse in the old Doctor's hospital in Manhattan, New York. She later retired and returned to Eire and built a house there.

I would be happy to hear from any relatives in the parish.

  • Ray, do you know if this is the Mary Jane O'Gara you mentioned in your query? http://www.irishgraveyards.ie/plot.php?plotno=222&yardid=126&section=

This appears to be your mother's family in Ballinrumpa in the 1911 Census?

  • Hello Ray,

Just a follow up to see if your enquiry was successfully completed.

Ellen was interred with her husband Michael in the Old St Patricks Graveyard in Rusheens, Kilmovee. Their respective dates were 21st April 1935 and 12th Sep. 1960.

The only recent Moran obituary in the last eight years with a connection to Ballinrumpa would appear to be https://rip.ie/showdn.php?dn=270989/JohnMORAN/Kilmovee/Mayo

  • Hi Ray,

Don't know if we are related.  I'm from NJ also.  I was in Ballinrumpia & met John & Nancy Moran, trying to figure out if we were related or not, but probably not. I've been trying to locate my greats, Owen MORAN & Catherine DUFFY since 1995. They came to NJ in 1870 & settled in Jersey City.  Owen went back for a visit in 1911, (Kate had died previously).  Since 1911 was a census year I was hoping to find him on the census.  Only one I caould find was Owen MORAN staying with a cousin in Ballinrumpia,  James & Mary HORKIN.  I haven't seen the HORKIN name in my family bfore so I don't know if this was my great grandfather.  On Catherine DUFFY MORAN's death cert it gives her parents as John DUFFY & Bridget (unkn).  I found a marriage in Kilmovee parish between Catherine DUFFY & Owen Moran, but when I looked in Dublin it listed her dad as James, not John, so not sure if someone made a misteak or if this is not them.  I haven't seen any ELLEN in my family's names, they are all Bridgets, Mary's, Catherines, no Ellens.  Do you have any Owen MORANS in your line?
