  • Seeking Carralackey Neighbors/Relatives of Michael Frain (1875-1960) & Mary Duffy (1885-1982)

    Hello Kathleen,

The details below are the burials in Kilmovee with the last Frain being Michael and Mary Duffy Frain 1960 and 1982 respectively.

Michael and Mary Duffy Frain being the parents of your Patrick, you will be reliant upon the Duffy families in the townland for any known connection.

The most recent death , that of Michael Duffy in 2009 may offer a point of contact with his wife Bridie ( a letter addressed merely with the name and Carralackey, Kilmovee, Co Mayo should find its way there)

Alternatively you may wish to use social media with facebook to reach out -

Trusts this helps in your search.

Apologies - The burials are those relating to Carralackey in Kilmovee.

With all Patrick's siblings emigrating to the US those people remembering the family may be few and far between.

Kilmovee do however produce an annual magazine for the parish of past events which Bridie and her family may have past copies of which would prove interesting .

  • Thanks Pat,

I appreciate the help.  My misunderstanding, I thought that my post would appear to those in the Kilmovee parish.  I guess that was unrealistic as that would have to be sanctioned by the church.  I'm not sure that the facebook sites you referred me to are the right venue for asking about living relatives.  I pictured this small village where I could just drop the name "Tony Frain" for example and people would say "of course, he was the one who drove the taxi".  What was I thinking-- people are just sitting around missing old Tony?!  I also thought that I'd have a "connection" to the parish and an invite to meet someone from there.

I know, US people of Irish descent are a bit crazy..,maybe if I just "pop" into a local pub I can hope for an old guy who remembers the Frains.,,wish me luck...

      Thanks again!

    Hello Kathleen,

I am unsure as to who the Parish Liason contact is with all the changes that have happened to the site in the last two weeks. Merely posting and replying is the limit for me at present with some other glitches to be worked out.

You could contact the parish priest if you prefer a degree of confidentiality. Father Vincent has previously been very accommodating in the past - http://kilmoveeparish.org/ .

The Pub just below the church,  I recall was owned at one time by a Duffy family and has been known by the name ‘’Four Roads’’ and I think’’Crossroads’’ at one time. The powers of recall always amazes me but with so many changes over the years and people selling up and new people moving in those who may have a lasting memory of the ‘’old place’’ pre 1945 may very well be in one of many nursing homes, not necessarily in the Kilmovee/Ballaghaderreen area.

This is why I suggest the Carralackey/Duffy connection may be worth looking at whilst you have time to play with.

  • Hi Kathleen and Patrick:

We don't have a PL for Kilmovee although I watch for any messages that are posted since I also have connections to the parish.

Kathleen: Parish page for Ireland Reaching out refers to the civil parish rather than the RC parish. I would stop in at the Heritage Center right next to the church I will look for an e-mail and send to you offline.
