Gill:
Roots Ireland which is a subscription site has Kilmovee RC baptismal records starting in 1854 and marriages starting in 1824. I checked for a John Roddy baptism in Kilmovee in that time period and was not able to find a record. Possibly John was born just prior to 1854. I did locate two Roddy baptismal records in Kilmovee where the parents were Domnick and Bridget. There was a Mary in 1856 and an "Se" in 1859. I could not determine the rest of the given name.
Later this summer the National Library of Ireland plans to place all RC parish registers online for free searching. I would check the Kilmovee records at that time. Possibly the baptismal records start before 1854.
I did find a 1901 census record for a Michael Roddy and his family in Leveelick. Possibly this Michael was an older brother to John.

FYI. My great-grandmother (Mary Duffy born 1858) came from Kilmovee parish and she married a Bernard Roddy who lived near Ballaghaderreen.

Hi Roger, and a very belated reply to your email in April re John Roddy. I really appreciated your input and, in fact, in May my husband and I visited Kilmovee, where we found the lady at the Community Centre so helpful. As luck would have it, we were also able to meet Tess Regan (Bridget Theresa, nee Roddy) who now lives in Kilmovee, and her brother "Jack" who still lives at the Roddy home in Leveelick. Their father was Dominick and grandfather was Michael Roddy of Leveelick. We think it likely that John Roddy was one of Michael's brothers (there were 3 boys/3 girls in the family according to a previous Roots forum/chat), and Dominic/Bridget Roddy their parents. According to Tess, there has always been only one Roddy family living at Leveelick, which seems to fit in with Dominick of Leveelick in the Griffiths valuation. I have since found a Hugh Roddy b.1842 living in Leveelick listed in the 1911 Census, so maybe he was the third brother. As yet, I've not found any other reference to him elsewhere, but will continue to search. I have also since found one of Dominick's daughters, Catherine, who married a Horan (Dominick's named appeared on their marriage records), and the record of Mary which you mentioned. As for John Roddy, my grandfather, I think it likely he was in fact born prior to 1854, and maybe a record of him will eventually turn up.
Many thanks again, Roger, for your email.
Kind regards,
Gill

Hi Gill!
Glad you hooked up with Patricia Meehan. We have been exchanging e-mails on Facebook. My wife and I visited the Kilmovee Community Center last September and will likely visit again next month when we go back to Ireland.
As my first note mentions, I also have Roddy connections from near Ballaghaderreen.
