Eileen: Duffy is a very common name in the area around Kilmovee. I checked the civil birth index records and there were five Mary Duffys birth registrations in the Swineford registration district (which includes Kilmovee parish) in 1866. The townland spelling is Clooncarha. I found two Michael Duffy households in the 1901 census in Clooncarha. http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Mayo/Kilmore/Clooncarh… http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Mayo/Kilmore/Clooncarh… Do you know of any siblings of Mary who remained in Ireland? Unfortunately I don't know much about the rest of the family. One sister Anne was born in 1885 and emigrated to the USA. The only other info I have is the marriage of Michael Duffy and Catherine Regan February 1963 in Kelbeagh/Charlestown.
Thanks for your reply.

Eileen:
I didn't mention that one of my great-grandmothers was also a Mary Duffy who was born in 1858 and lived in Magheraboy townland in Kilmovee parish which is probably a mile to the southeast of Clooncarha. She married and stayed in Ireland.
The church in Charlestown is a good five or more miles to the northwest from Clooncarha. I assume Catherine Regan was from that area since the marriage was almost always held in the brides church.
I looked at Roots Ireland www.rootsireland.ie but could not find a Mary Duffy baptism to parents Michael and Catherine in the Kilmovee records but did find an 1867 Mary Duffy baptism, parents Michael and Catherine in the Kilbeagh/Charlestown records.
I assume your Mary came into Philadelphia?
Did she marry before 1900? Who did she marry?

Eileen:
Do you know a Margaret Goads? I just found this message from January that relates to Duffys in Clooncarha.

If the link does not work, look at the bottom of this page for a January 3rd posting related to Duffys.
Any connection?

I have what I believe is the correct birth certificate for Mary. It shows her born June 7 1866.
Next info I have is her marriage record to Patrick Greeley in Philadelphia in April 1891.
US Census records are not available 1890. Will try to locate her address in Philadelphia at time of marriage and see if any other family members are at that address.
Other census records have varying information on her age and years in US.
She died in Philadelphia in January 1941.
Passenger records turn up so many hits that I cannot be certain if I have a correct one.
Thank for your replies.

Eileen:
I looked at the 1900-1910-1920 censuses. No Duffy relatives. Only Patrick's father. They lived on Leithgow St. ( between 4th and 5th ) near Lehigh Ave in Philadelphia in 1900 and 1910 then by 1920 moved one street over to 4th St. I grew up about 20 blocks north from there.
They likely attended St. Bonaventure church. http://www.phillychurchproject.com/st-bonaventure/
If you could locate the baptismal records for their children, you may find some siblings of Mary.

My Duffy family comes from John Duffy 1801 married to a Harriet ? Am guessing abt 1833 as first daughter Mary born then Next is Margaret 1836 Hannah 1839 Catherine 1841 John 1843 and Patrick 1845 all family accept possibly Mary went to Hull Yorkshire 1852 ish They are not in UK 1851 census but Margaret married Walter Lowry in 1855 in Hull
Patrick joined Irish guards in UK and faught WW1 He died 1918 and is burried in Flanders France.
I am defended from Margaret Duffy & Walter lowry but it's very hard to trace as some census say all born Ahagmore n others say swineford foxford or Bohola and even Tomboholla for John Duffy seniour
Patrick's army records say he was born in Kilmovee so am wondering if any of you are defended from any of my lot
Thanks
Oh ps am living in Galway past 28 years but too ill to drive up Thank youSuzhannah03

Hello Suzhanna. Was the Patrick who served in WW1 the same who was born in 1845? That would make him nearly 70 when war broke out.

Hi Suzhanna. I expected that might be the answer re Patrick. I know the British Army was desperate for men as the war went on but I doubt if septuagenarians were sent for overseas service.
Are you going to put your enquiry on the Mayo board with an appropriate heading? Someone else might notice it and hopefully give you a lead. It risks being overlooked here. You could put a link from this thread.
My Kilmovee ancestor put something different for place of birth on each English census too. It was Kilkelly on one, Ballyhaunis on another, just Mayo on the earliest census. Townland was mentioned only once.
