Right two family names in the same area.First my fathers paternal ancestors the Gaughan's Anthony Gaughan born 1833 in or around Ballina, his father is William I don't have a mothers name. Anthony left Ireland in the late 1840's as he first appears in 1851 census in Leeds,Yorkshire and in 1854 in Tadcaster married Bridget Ormsby also from in or around Ballina,I'm assuming they travelled over together as she first appears in the 1851 census of Leeds. Bridget's baptism was 6th January address Carravanin?Parish Backs/Knocksmore.Her parents are Charles Ormsby(named on her marriage certificate) her mother Margaret Gaughan listed with her in two english census with Bridgets sister Betsy I'm guessing she was really Elizabeth baptised 11th November 1842 same parents and place Backs/Knocksmore. Charles and Margaret married on 16th February 1832 Roman Catholic church. Parish Backs/Knockmore Her address is listed as Lisaneska and his Carravana. the Witnesses were John Walsh and Jane Gaughan. It is also strange that Charles married a Gaughan and his daughter Bridget married an Anthony Gaughan Did they marry distant cousins or such? Any information on any of my Ancestors would be very helpful. Charles Ormsby was baptised on the 11th September in 1774 in Kilmoremoy . His father was Micheal Ormsby and mother Eleanor I don't know her maiden name. That info I got on my Ancestory cite. The other baptism's and marriage of Charles I got from Mayo, family history centres cite. Like I said any Information would be great

Hi,
Thank you very much for your message. I hope that someone with information on the family makes a connection with you. In the meantime, here are some resources you may find helpful:
Church Records:
Have you tried looking in church records for more information? Most Catholic records are held locally so you may need to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance. One website that you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. It also shows you where copies of the records are available.
For Kilmoremoy (Ballina) parish:
Civil records:
Civil registration began in Ireland in 1864 so any births, deaths or marriages in the family after this date would be recorded in these records. Civil records are available from the General Register?s Office. Here is their website:
http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm
You can search the indexes to these records up to 1958 online at:
https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1408347
Land Records:
You could also check for record of the family in the land records pertaining to Ireland in the 19th century. There are two:
The Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1838) found at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp
and Griffith?s Valuation (1848-1864) found at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
Some other websites that you may find useful are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
The National Archives UK ? genealogy search: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/
The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm
Family Search: www.familysearch.org
Mayo Library: http://www.mayolibrary.ie/en/LocalStudies/
Genealogy links: http://www.genealogylinks.net/uk/ireland/mayo/index.html
From Ireland: http://www.from-ireland.net/county-mayo-genealogy/
Irish Newspaper Archives: http://www.irishnewsarchive.com/
I hope some of this is helpful. Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
Kind regards,
