Its been over a year since I stuck my nose in here and pretended I know what I was talking about.

My biggest problem in following ancestry is still my Irish Roots.

I ran into that darn wall and cant go back further.

Im still trying to find my 3rd, 4th and possibly 5th great grandparents information.

According to a 1821 census it shows my 3rd great grandmother as a widow and her last child born in 1814. I had heard but nothing verified that my 3rd great grandparents had 5 children, 3 girls and 2 boys. Yet Edward was the only one said to have left Ireland.

Here is a link to that 1821 census, maybe useable by some of you.

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/

Here is what I know.

My page of the 1821 census:

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1821/Cavan/Kilmore/Drumheck…

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1821/Cavan/Kilmore/Drumheck…

The second one lists the name Judy Bennet as wife, they misspelled the name and this would be Julia Kenny, Edwards wife and 2 children

Edward Bennett  My 2nd great grandfather

Birth 1798 in Drumhecknagh, Kilmore Parish, County Cavan, Ireland,

Death 1834 in Lanark, 1654312, Ontario, Canada

His wife

Julia Kenny wife of 2nd great grandfather, not my 2nd great grandmother

Birth 1800 in Drumhecknagh, Kilmore Parish, County Cavan, Ireland

Death Abt 1828 in Lanark Village, Lanark, Ontario, Canada

Edwards mother

Mary Bennett my 3rd great grandmother

Birth 1778

Death unknown

So this is just about all I know about my Irish Bennetts

Welcome back to Ireland Reaching Out! You have done a great deak to research your family and you are one of the lucky ones who can find an 1821 census record for their family. I don't think you will be able to go back any further with your family if they were RC since church records for Kilmore RC don't start until 1859. However, if they were Church of Ireland, you may find records since C of I records go back to 1702.

I can't tell if you have the 1856 Griffiths Valuation listing for Kilmore parish. A William Bennett is listed for Drumhecknagh. http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/cavan/kilmore.htm Possibly he was the brother of Edward?

There is also a Bennett family in the 1901 and 1911 censuses in Drumhecknagh.

I did find a civil death index record for a William Bennett born 1809 (according to the informant) who died in 1878.
