I am trying to trace my GG Grandmother, Mary Sullivan, born abt 1841 to John Leo Sullivan and Bridget Quinlan. They left Ireland around 1850 and appear in Enland census in 1851 in Lancashire.
Their emigration was, apparently, not due to potato famine but was caused by the execution of a relative that caused them problems.
The family had previously had a child, Michael, born in 1835 in Killarney, Co Kerry.
Any help gratefully received.
Kind Regards

Hi Kevin,
I went to www.irishgenealogy.ie and looked at the church records for kerry. I found Michael's baptism in 1835 and also found Mary sullivan b. 1831 father john sullivan mother bridget quinlan.
That's the only record with the three people listed.
Hope this helps,
anne

Anne,
Thanks for coming back to me.
I had found Michael for 1835 but my GG Grandmother Mary could not have been born in 1831, the year I have is 1841, which is echoed on all the English censi from 1851 until her death in 1920.
The place of birth on the censi is always given as Mayo, but as her husband was born there it may just be that the enumerators copied Patricks entry.
The Sullivan family I have is:
Father: John Leo Sullivan B 1816
Mother: Bridget Quinlan B 1821
Children Elizabeth B 1831
Thomas B 1831
Michael B 1835
John B 1840
Mary (my GG Grandmother) B 1841
Anna B 1846
The rest were born in England
Ann B 1851
William B 1853
I also am looking at Bridget's birth as the 1851 England census gives her age as 30 but Elizabeth is given as 20, clearly a problem there, perhaps John Leo married again? There was no mention of Thomas in that census, but at 20 he may have left home.
I will keep looking!
If you find anymore detail on my maternal forebears please do not hesitate to let me know.
Once again thanks for your help.
Kind Regards
Kevin
