Hello--
I'm looking for any O'Leary relatives in the Kilgarvan area. My great-grandmother was Mary O'Leary, daughter of James O'Leary and Ellen Sullivan. She left for the US around 1894, went to Chicago to live with an uncle, and married/raised a family. James and Ellen had 10 children...I believe Mary was the oldest and if I have the "correct" family, other siblings were Eugene, Michael, Annie, Alice, John, Timothy, and James (all born between 1874 and 1894).
I believe James' father was Michael O'Leary (married to Alice McCarthy?) and his father was Timothy O'Leary (born 1800?).
I would love to learn more about these relatives and would be interested in any and all information. In addition, my husband and I will be visiting the area this June and look forward to visiting the area and perhaps meeting some family.
Thanks for any connections you might provide! Cheri (Brophy) Pero

Cheri:
I assuemyou found you family in the 1901 and 1911 census in Slaght townland and they were shown as Leary.
Here is a link to the St. Patrick Church in Kilgarvan. You may want to send them an e-mail and see if they are familiar with any O'Learys around Slaght.

Hi Roger-
Thanks for the suggestion. I will definitely follow up. I did see the 1901/1911 census data. I also know that the O'Leary (Leary) group farmed land in Fussa, so have been able to find a bit more. I'll keep at it, but think the parish records could be helpful. Thanks so much!
