Roger -- Thank you for such a quick response.  We are planning a trip in August and hope to see actual places where the family lived.    Would you have a suggestion for how to go about doing that? 

Not sure which direction you are coming from to get to Charlestown. It is situated between Swinford town in Mayo and Ballaghaderreen town in Roscommon on the N5 main highway. They opened a N5 bypass around Charlestown in 2007 so make sure you take the local road to get there. I've given you a link to the Charlestown library and also to the Riverside restaurant in the town. You may want to go to the library first to get situated and get directions.

The townland of Cartron is about 4 miles west of the town on the N5 as you are coming in from Swinford to Charlestown. Fauleens is about 4 miles southeast of Charlestown and you will need directions locally to get there.
