Walsh/Gallagher from Dooleeg More and Keenagh Co. Mayo

I checked Roots Ireland www.rootsireland.ie and could not locate a John Walsh/Mary Gallagher marriage record. I did locate the John Walsh/Ellen Gallagher 1861 record which I  know you have.

Roots does have 3 baptismal records from 1840-1860 for Walsh children to John Walsh and Mary Gallagher in the Crossmolina RC church records. Possibly these records are for another couple since Walsh and Gallagher were common names in the area.

Roots is a pay site and they now require that you purchase a subscription in order to view transcriptions of church records.

By the way, I did locate a 1901 census record for a John Walsh in Keenagh More

Is this your John Walsh who married the Gallaghers?

I am not sure if we are connected, but my great grandfather John Hopkins had a sister Kate.  Kate married a man named Gallagher and both families were from Dooleeg More.  Kate was born Kate Hopkins in around the year 1880.  Kate was one of 11 children born to Patrick Hopkins and Celia O'Boyle Hopkins.

I am the grandson of Michael Hopkins, John's oldest brother. I have a few photos of John and have met 3 of his children--Mae, John and Ann. I've been to Ireland 5 times and have a lot of information. I do not have a photo of Katie Gallagher but would like to find one.

I am overwhelmed at your post.  We have one picture of John.  His first wife, Mary Sweeney, my great-grandmother died very young.  We have very little information about his parents.  I can scan send you the picture I have.  My email is:

I have not been to Ireland but have been told the Hopkins side of the family is from Dooliegmore.  I would appreciate any information/pictures you are able to share.
