Records for my great great grandparents Patrick Moran and Sarah Granahan show they are from Ireland but none indicate which county. In doing a surname search for mid-19th century in www.irishtimes.com, I find that the Moran surname is very common in Ireland with a large concentration in Co. Mayo, and 12 in Crossmolina in particular. The Granahan surname in almost entirely limited to Co. Mayo with 23 households, 15 of which are in Crossmolina in particular. They emigrated to Ontario Province, Canada before 1848, when their first child Michael was born, but I don't know where they married, whether Ireland or Ontario. Their daughter Mary Jane was my great grandmother, who married John Wells, a native of Crossmolina (inquiry previously posted). Is it common for migrants from Ireland to marry other migrants from their same community or county? Might there be any Moran/Granahan records available? They were apparently born in the 1822-1825 range, according to their death announcements. Thank you.

Unfortunately, the Crossmolina RC records available start in August 1831. Next Wednesday, the National Library of Ireland is placing all RC parish registers online for free searching. Crossmolina is in the Diocese of Killala. Below is information on the years available. There is a three and half year gap in the 1840s.
Regarding your question, it was very common for for Irish immigrants to marry people from their own community or county.

In researching my FOY+MANLEY/MUNNELLY family I found a Bridget GREHAN. My g'grand was Bridget Marie FOY b 25 Dec 1839, baptized 29 Dec. Residence given was Carramore, Co Mayo and on the same page were several other FOY records. One is baptism of Catharine FOY, 1830.11.24 with parents Michael FOY + Bridget GREHAN of Carramore; sponsors John COSGRIFF + Cicilia [Cecilia] HEALY. Ref. 1-81-74. The name GRENAHAN is likely the same family, and they likely also lived in or nr. Carramore. From everything I have seen, this Carramore is sw of Ballina on the e side of Lake Conn. The FOYs on this page include James, John, Michael, Pat (babies Joseph, John, Martin, Catharine, Pat, Cate, Bridget) and were likely all about the same age, baptisms 1830-1844. Spouses include: DURKAN, CUFFE, GREHAN, MONELLY, MUNELLY. Other family names in the particular records are MCDONNELL, CORLEY, CUFFE/COFFE, GAUGHAN, CONNOR, MONELLY, SIRON [SYNON] who were sponsors and likely related. James FOY lived in Belass, all others in Carramore. Diocese would likely show as Killala, also Kilmoremoy. My particular family moved into Ballina bef emigrating in 1848-89, and lived in Rathkip neighborhood w a number of relatives on Hill St. Since the border bet Mayo & Sligo was moved some info might appear in Sligo. (Border used to run right through the middle of Ballina!) Birth dates of these FOY parents and their siblings are 1797-1814. My g'g'grandparents were m 1828 in RC Parish of Kilcolman, Claremorris which might be another clue for you. Spellings vary w the record, yours might also appear as GREEN.
