Hi, I'm looking for marriage info and children's baptisms for Edward Varley (born c 1820, Co Galway (?)) and Mary Carney (b. c 1820, Co Mayo). They had Pat (born Co. Mayo, 1841), Bridget (Apr 1845, Mayo), John (Mar 1854, Mayo), Mary (Oct 1858, Staffordshire, England), and Edward T. (13 May 1859, Staffordshire, England). Obviously the family moved to England for work between 1854 and 1858. Ultimately they moved to Pennsylvania in 1870. Since the couple married in Ireland, but they were in different counties, I'm assuming they may have lived near the border, and there is some suggestion through DNA that the parish of Cong may be a candidate. It seems that pre-1850ish records are not online. Does this mean they haven't survived, or are they just not available online yet? Any suggestions as to where to look are welcome! Regards, Anita

The records for the RC parish of Cong start in 1870. Earlier records did not survive.
I did search the subscription site Roots Ireland and did not find a marriage record for Edward and Mary nor did I locate any of the baptismal records for the older children.
The 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Cong parish in Galway and Cong parish in Mayo both show a good number of Varley/Varely/Varrily records but no Edward.

Maybe you will get some new DNA matches with people who have Varley connections and know more about the family origins in Ireland.
