    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Do you have a baptismal or civil record showing Mary's birth date as February 15th 1864 or was that the date she used?

Who are Thomas and Mary McTigue? You mention parents but her surname is Meegan/Mugan/Moogan.

Any idea when she married Thomas Boyle or John Peyton?

You posted in Claremorris. I assume Mary was from that area?

  • Sorry i have edited post, to show that McTigue was mothers maiden name

I will contact my grandma see if she knows how we came by the date of birth

Mary was born in Claremorris, but at least one of her children was born in Kilkelly, so assume she moved after her marriage

I can only approximate the dates of marriage Thomas Boyle, eldest child born 1890-1892, youngest child 1897-1900

John Peyton, had son with mary who was born 1910-1915

Mary and John must have both passed away by 1920 as child also named john was placed in an orphanage

I found a February 15, 1864 civil birth record for a Mary Mugan. The father's named was John and mother was Mary McTigue. The baptism was over in the Castlebar area. The record shows Cloonkan townland and there is no townland with that name. Possibly it was Cloonkeen in Aglish civil parish.

I have to go out but will look for other data later.

I searched on Roots Ireland and found the following baptismal records. The first four records were church records at the Aghamore RC church.

    Edward  9/14/1890

    Winifred 11/19/1893  Woodfield

    Patrick 11/29/1896 Woodfield

    Bridget  11/16/1898 Woodfield

Ellen 4/7/1900  civil record lived in Kilkelly

I was unable to find the marriage record or a 1901 census record.

I would not be too conerned about the spelling of the surname. The Irish were not as exact on spelling in the 1900 era. My great-grandfather was McDonnell in 1901 and MacDonnell in 1911.

  • Have corrected details to show her born in Castlebar, so husband Thomas must have been born in Claremorris, so original request was listed in the wrong 'area'
