My grandfather James Callaghan, was born in Westport, possibly Burrishoole parish on April 23rd 1906. The 1911 census has possibly four James Callaghans who fit the year, though i did find some information which gave his grandmother living with the family- Bridget McMananom. I have not been fortunate enough to find any other details, so any information and help you can offer would be so appreciated.
With thanks.

Where did your James end up, do you have a marriage cert for him ?
Marriage records in most countries mention father's names, and for some parts of the world mention names of both parents, and can be very useful in assisting the search for connections.

Hi Ali
There are 3 baptism records of James Callaghan 1906 mayo on www.rootsireland.ie/
However none is from Westport or Burrishoole; they are from Moygownagh RC, Kilconduff RC & Kilcolman RC. The latter is James Thomas Callaghan the others are just James.

The Kennelly Klan family tree on ancestry.com (owner Vereen Franklin) has James born 23 April 1907 in Claggarnagh East, Mayo. His parents are Michael Callaghan and CATHERINE MCMANAMON.

Do you have access to ancestry or do you know Vereen?

Hi Col,
I dont know Vereen, however i have found on the 1911 census a James Callaghan aged 5 at Clooneshil (Derryloughan?) and a James Callaghan aged 5 in Tavraun (Urlaur). But that information you have sounds so similar to what i have been told especially the McMananom name, on the Clooneshil address there is a Bridget McManamon listed as mother in law. Thank you for your help, it is truly appreciated. I would really like to learn about my grandfathers family, having a name for his mothers family would be a real help. Thanks again!!
