I'm looking for my 3rd great grandparents, Patrick Conway & Catherine Cain.

Both are listed in the 1901 census, Patrick born about 1826 and Catherine about 1831.  The family is from Skerdagh Lower, and there are six known children: Michael 1864, Margaret(I descend from) 1867, Eliza 1871, Ellen 1874, and Michael 1876.  There is a possible child Anthony born 1878.

I cannot locate a marriage record for Patrick & Catherine.  I also do not know parents' names or siblings.

Daughter Margaret Conway's obituary lists a sister named Alice McAuliff, I don't know if Alice is a separate sibling or a nickname to sisters Eliza or Ellen.

Known baptismal sponsors of the children are: Anthony Conway & Catherine Conway.  It's possible Anthony is a brother and Catherine is either a sister or sister-in law to Patrick.  Baptism of Patrick Conway born 1874 was of Burrishoole/Newport parish.

Any information on the marriage of Patrick & Catherine and/or parents's and sibling's names would be a huge help!

Thanks,

Christina

  • I recently located Catherine in the 1911 census.  Her birth year would be approximatley 1832.  She is listed as a widow, so Patrick died between 1901 and 1911.  She is living with son Michael, a widower, and three children, 1 of which is Michael's for sure.

The family comes from Skerdagh Lower as far as birth records show.  They are still there in the 1901 and 1911 census.

    Thanks

  • Hi Christina

I came across this old post of yours and I am hoping that you may still be contactactable. Patrick and Catherine are also my Great Great Granparents on my Mother's side of the Family. Bridget Conway was also their daughter and married John Lavelle. The Lavelle Family lived in Skerdagh alongside Patrick and Catherine. I have more information on Bridget and Michael, her brother, that I would be happy to share with you.

    Kind Regards

    Michael

  • Hello Michael!

I wasn't aware of Bridget and am happy to include more family members!  I was only able to find birth or baptism entries for 6 chidren - Michael, Margaret, Eliza, Ellen, Patrick, and Michael (and possibly Anthony as a 7th), but had wondered if there were children prior to the first Michael.  My ancestor (Margaret) was difficult to figure out since her age is different in every document there is of her.  I've been trying to find Patrick & Catherine's marriage date but have had no success.  I have also done ancestry testing through Family Tree DNA to try and find Irish connections.  Both my grandfather (now deceased) and one of his sisters has been tested.  I would love to learn about the Conway-Lavelle family!  If you'd like to contact me through email (CTsteinbuck at gmail dot com) or please post here if you prefer.  Great to hear from you!  I was starting to think I'd never learn more about this family!

    Thanks,

    Christina

  • Hello,

I was just surfing the old web working on my tree and saw this post. I'm of the Murrays at lower Skerdagh from Griffiths valuation 1850. John Murray, son Dominick and Patrick and then my grandfather Martin Dominicks son who emigrated from Skerdagh Lower 1928. Just seeing if anyone came across any of my stuff since we were so close at one point.
