My people came from somewhere in County Mayo in 1848

Viceroy - Liverpool to New Orleans - arrival date 4 Jan 1848:
Michael Stanton 44 born County Mayo laborer
Mary 36 wife / Thomas 13 / Mary 10 / Patrick 9 / John 4 / Michael 2 / Austin ?Sept? infant

They settled in Warrick County, Indiana (on the Ohio River) and Michael died before the 1850 census, so things were a little tough for them.

There was a Thomas Stanton in Warrick County in 1820 (born Ireland, sometime between 1775-1794) - married to Comfort Conway.  He died in 1823.  I don't know if he is related to my people, but there must be some reason they chose to settle in this rather out of the way spot.

There was a group of Mayo County Stantons in Louisville, Ky - not terribly far away from Warrick Co - who appeared there in time for th 1860 census.  Patrick Stanton & Bridget Roddy or Ruddy - they may have gone first to Jamaica. Family memories say he was from Klare (with a K) but his tombstone says Mayo - is there a Klare in Mayo???  Also Patrick Stanton and Anna Walsh or Welsh - she was from Tooreen, Partry, Mayo.  There also was a Thomas Stanton and Margaret Kelly - I am not sure if they were from Mayo.  I am not sure if these people were connected with mine, but they share a lot of the same names - admittedly Thomas, Patrick and Michael are fairly common, but Austin is a little rarer - and my Thomas Stanton did serve in the Kentucky Cavalry in the Civil War (his brothers were all in Indiana units).

So - any connections? any suggestions on where to start?

Thanks so much for providing this service!
