Leonard:
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
You may want to provide more specifics about your family and where they lived in Ireland presumably within Bohola parish in Mayo. Were the Leonards from Carroward?

Yes they were from Carroward, do you know of any/them?
Thanks
-
No. I just looked at the 1901 census for Bohola parish and the only Leonards listed were in Carroward.

Leonard:
Suggest you consider autosomal DNA testing.

Hi, I am Robert Leonard's sister, who just posted a message to you, then he called me to tell me. Our father is Michael Joseph Leonard and his siblings are John Leonard, Edward Leonard, Thomas Leonard, Peggy(Margaret) Driscoll, Mary Ingles, and Patrick Joseph Leonard. My name is Kathleen Leonard. My father, Michael, did not talk much about Ireland. I found out some information from Aunt Peggy and Uncle John. My father was born in 1911, not sure if it was in Carroward or Castlebar, County Mayo. I have gathered that my father and Uncle John, being the oldest kids, were sent ot England or Wales in the 1920's when they would have been young boys, to work the coal mines! Had to be an awful existence for them. I don't know when they returned to Ireland. My father, Michael, immigrated to the USA at some point, don't know when! John, Peggy, and Tom also immigrated to the USA. The four of them went to Chicago, Illinois. I believe their Aunt Margaret Steffans sponsored them...? Their sister, Mary Ingles, went to Canada. Their brother, Edward, went to England. And PJ, the youngest, stayed in Ireland. I wish I knew more about their life, etc., but my father was a quiet man. If you are indeed related, please advise. I would love to know more about the family. I hope to someday take a trip to Ireland just to see where they were from. I am in the Nashville, Tennessee area, USA. Thanks... Kathy Leonard
