All the information I have is that Martin Flynn my ggggrandfather came from Bohola. He was called Martin Flynn and he was a Blacksmith. The 1911 census in England says the word 'cullens' Does any one know what that could mean ? He was born in the Bohola area and family left at the time of famine and I can see no records of that time exist. His son was also born in Bohola area he had............. around the 1840's

Martin Flynn

Bernard Flynn

Andrew Flynn

The family were RC

No idea how to find when they came from. One griffiths record suggest Meelick area .

Any Info would be great.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I looked at the 1833 Tithe listings and located a record for a Martin Flynn and a Michael Flynn in Culleens in Meelick parish. Meelick is just to the north of Bohola parish. Culleens was a place name as of 1833 but is not an official townland name now. Maybe Ballinvoher or Rinbrack from the 1856 Griffiths is where Culleens is located.

The RC parish register for Kilconduff and Meelick is here http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0133  Although marriage records go way back, the baptismal records start in 1822-1826 then there is a big gap until 1841. You shoudl search for your Flynns. The register is likely in Latin.

Let me know if you have questions.

  • Hi Team

Many Thanks for your help. I have found the marriage record of Martin Flynn and Mary Dougherty in 1827 on National Libray of Ireland. Please can you advise if the villlage of Ballyglass is in the area called Cullens (see tax record) ?

Martin Flynn on the 1911 census wrote the words for place of birth Cullens , Mayo.

    Thanks for nay help

There are a number of Ballyglass townlands in Mayo. The closest would be Ballyglass townland in Kilconduff parish just to the east of Meelick parish.
