My Gt Grandfather was born to James and Mary Dolan in 1843. They left Mayo in the late 1840s due to the Great Hunger. I believe that James' father was William Dolan but I think that my family was embarrassed by their poverty and did not pass stories down the family. James and Mary had a son Patrick in 1840 and another Michael in 1845. Do these names fit into anyone elsesfamily. They settled in Liverpool  but some may have moved to Manchester.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

The RC records for Ballyhaunis start in 1851/1852 which is too late for your interests

I looked at the 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Annagh civil parish and there was one Doolan record and two Dowlan records. Not sure if there is any connection to your ancestors.

You may want to consider autosomal DNA testing.

I have posted this before and got a reply- which I cannot find- however these seem to be the baptismal records of my gt grandfather John and his brother Patrick. Is there any way of finding the exact parish/area that came from? I had Ancestry DNA done but haven't yet found any Mayo links. Thanks Anne McCann

  • Roger- Thanks for your help- I have looked at the records again on the National Library of Dublin again and it looks as though I hae the parish incorrect. The records seem to be in Ballyhean parish? The record of the marriage is on the Balkyhean site and is 14th May 1840. I will see if there is a parish group for Ballyhean. t\hank you for your help. Anne
