I am looking for information on the Anthony and Mary Rowan (aka Ruane/Roan) family. They married prior to abt 1832 and had three daughters Mary (b. abt 1833), Catherine (b. abt 1847, and Bridget (b. abt 1850), all born in Ballacastle. Anthony was likely from the Ballina area while Mary was from Ballacastle (maiden name unknown). Any help with information about this family would be appreciated. Extensive record searches to date have been unsuccessful. This family moved to York England sometime between 1851 and 1861.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

The RC parish records for Ballycastle do not start until 1864. I also checked the 1855/1856 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Doonfeeny civil parish which includes Ballycastle and there were no Rowan records listed. Perhaps Anthony and family had left for England.

Have you considered autosomal DNA testing?

  • Hello

my great great grandmother was Mary Rowan from Rosscommon Co. Mayo she married Owen Queeney also from Co.Mayo in Wolverhampton Staffordshire. Both parents are listed as Patrick Rowan and Patrick Queeney, in 1851

Dont know if they are the same as the people in your family tree

  • Jenny,

Thanks very much for the quick reply. I'm afraid your great great granmother is another Mary Rowan. My great great grandmother would have been married about 1832, a bit earlier. I appreciate your response.

    Thanks,

    Kevin
