My great-grandfather, Robert Machesney, appears to have been married twice, both times in Enniskillen in 1849 and 1878. My grandfather is one of six siblings born close to Enniskillen in the 1880s.
However, I have discovered a possible birth of a Robert Machesney in County Cavan in 1823, but have not managed to confirm this as being my great-grandfather. In addition, research into parish records at PRONI has unearthed two well-documented familes of Machesneys, descended from a Wiliam Machesneyfrom Annagh in County Cavan. He married twice - firstly to Mary Hewitt in 1844 and secondly to Sarah Henderson in 1852.
Unfortuneately, I have not been able to find William's birth, but I believe that he was the brother of my great-grandfather. The circumstantial evidence for this is: similar periods for birth; both men recorded as having a father James, a famer, living in the township of Crahard; and male descendents of William turning up in Liverpool in the late 18th and early 19th centuries and one recorded as lodging with my grandfather in Liverpool in the 1911 Census.
I would welcome evidence to fill in the gaps.
