My husband has a Kennedy Gt Grandfather from Westport, Thomas Kennedy. I think he might be part of the Mace North family. He and his brother Michael ended up near Newcastle upon Tyne, NE England. I think Michael may have returned to Ireland as I cannot find him in later records. I was in Aghagower and Mace North a few years ago but didn't have time to connect with any present day Kennedys. I have found a lot of grave stone records on line. Hoping someone maybe able to help.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
See the two baptismal record transcriptions below. Are these the correct records. The National Archives site is down right now. so I can't check the 1901 and 1911 censuses.

Those are the records I found. I will also have the 1901 anf 1911 censuses and all the likely graveyard stones. I think at this stage I need to contact family on the ground to prove the connection as the homeplace name has not travelled down to the family members over here in England. On my visit to Mayo I was given the location of some of the Mace North family so I should pluck up courage and contact them direct! I am doing this in memory of my mother-in-law who died in 1989 (RIP). Tfhank you for your contribution.

Hi Patience,
My great grandfather was Walter Kennedy , a brother of Thomas & Michael. My grandmother was Nora Kennedy a daughter of Walter. They did live in Mass north, Aughagower, Westport, Co. Mayo. I come from Westport, but now live in Swindon UK.
I know some of the Kennedy's did go to North shields. Think possibly to the Naughtons who were already there. The next generation, a lot went to the USA. I am on Ancestry * My Heritage. Do you have any information on Thomas. Had a look at some records. Did he marry twice, seems like he was married to Ellen & then Alice. Would like to hear from you.

Hello Maura, Lovely to hear from you, I had about given up hope of making a connection to Westport. I checked out the Naughtons in North Shields and they were there. Peter and Mary Naughton and 6 sons. I wondered what brought Thomas Kennedy over to that particular place! I have been researching for a while but do not have anything on-line. Yes Thomas Kennedy was married twice but all the children are to his first wife, Ellen Faden. Family likely to be from Aghagower also but I haven't confirmed it. If you would like some information please contact me via: margaret@me5hall.f9.co.uk I have a lot of photographs of gravestones, perhaps you could untangle them for me. Did Michael Kennedy b. 1866 go back to Maas. Several Michael's on the stones, possibly Michael the father of Walter, Thomas, Michael etc. I visited the cemetery and also the townland a few years ago but a neighbour said no Kennedys living there now but there were two on the main road. I didn"t have time to pursue further.
