  • Hi Sally,

I've had a bit of a look for your grandfather's birthplace.

There is a Purcell family tree on ancestry which has an Edward Purcell listed as a child of Patrick and Mary Purcell.

Edward was born in September 1846 in Pennsylvania and died 17th June 1932.

He married Jane Fleming and they had 11 children.

Patrick and Mary were both born in Ireland in 1832 and 1833 respectively.

There is a site called rootsireland.ie on which I looked for Patrick and Mary's marriage but couldn't find one for Patrick Purcell and Mary Purcell. I looked for the births of Patrick Purcell 1832 and found two - one in Wicklow and one in Kilkenny.

I then found marriages for Patrick Purcell and Mary (no surname) and found 5 in Wicklow (Isuspect it's the same on 5 times). So, as they didn't travel too far in those days I'd reckon Patrick and Mary Keogh came from Wicklow and married there before immigrating.

Let me know if I'm on the right track and whether you want any further information.

    Regards

    Col Cafferky
