Coming to Ardee in May,hope to find Carroll house in Lambtown, Ardee, Louth, home of Patrick Carroll and Catherine McHale. Their son, Andrew remained and had a son called Patrick, both alive in 1911 census. Andrew's 4 brothers came to USA, maybe 1840's? Patrick,my grandfather, John, James and Michael. James and Michael died for the Union in the War Between the States; Patrick fought for the Confederacy, was married to Ann McCloskey, possibly in Ireland ,c.1841. They had three daughters, one, Bridget, my great grandmother, Ann and Catherine all born in SC. I cannot find John . Per mother, these Carrolls were from family in Westmeath...Per 1911 Census of Ireland, Andrew , 75 & Patrick, 48 lived in House #1 in Lambtown. Found ref. in Griffith's Valuation. Any descendants, any alive?
Where are the family buried? Who were their ancestors? When and why did the boys leave? Any records will be cherished...

Have you tried looking in church records for information? Most Catholic records are held locally so you may need to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance. One website that you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. It also shows you where copies of the records are available. For Ardee parish, follow this link:
Most surviving Church of Ireland records are still held by the local clergy, although some are in the National Archives of Ireland and others are in the Representative Church Body Library in Dublin. Here are their websites: http://www.nationalarchives.ie/ and http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42
Lists of these surviving registers can also be found at the National Library of Ireland.
Civil registration began in Ireland in 1864 so any births, deaths or marriages in the family after this date would be recorded in these records. Civil records are available from the General Register?s Office in Dublin. Here is their website:
