According to his Army Records my great great Grandfather Michael Gaugharty (as he spelt his name) was born "in the Parish of Temple Michael in or near the Town of Longford in the County of Longford".
On his marriage certificate in Yorkshire his name is given as Garighorty.
When he enlisted on the 15th October 1827 his age is given as Seventeen. In all census records his year of birth is 1811.
I have gone through every page of the Microfilm Baptisms for Temple Michael for 1810 and 1811, and checked other possible spellings but cannot find a baptism record for him. I know his father's name was Michael.
Is there somewhere else I should be looking? He was Roman Catholic.
Thank you
Mary Crane

Thank you Mary. Yes, I did see this, but if he was born in 1808 he would have been 19 when he joined the Army, when in fact he said he was 17 and therefore underage. I cannot think why he would want to claim he was underage if he was not. Also in every census he gives his dob as 1811.
