My great GrandfatherJames Cummiskey lived his entire life in Currycreaghan, His wife was Catherine (Eliza) Clyne and they had Ten Children of which Six emigrated to the United States and 2 two died at a young age. My Great Grandfather was born in March of 1843 and as far as I have been able to ascertain he died Jan - Mar in 1928. After his death the remaining family left Currycreaghan. He was married in Carrickedmond on 29 Jul 1875 His children are Patrick, Simon, John, Mary, Annie, Bernard, Theresa, Sara, Ellen and Elizabeth. Elizabeth died in Newport Sullivan, New Hampshire in January of 1919 from the Spanish Flu, leaving two young sons and an infant son. Her sons James Patten and John Francis Patten were sent to Ireland to live with relatives in Ireland, They lived in Longford for at least nine years and were shipped back to their father in the US. Since their Grandparents were elderly when James and John arrived we are trying to discover which family they may have lived with. I would assume that they attended the Parish School and someone would have had to registered as their guardian. Any information you might have on the family would be most helpful. The only name I was given by John's Daughter was that he was befriended by a man named Doherty, unfortunately we did not have any relatives with the name of Doherty, he might have been a family servent or a Farnhand

Frederick:
I can't help you with the question related to the care of the Patten children. I was able to locate a death index record for James Cummiskey. See below. (Currycreaghan townland is in the Ballymahon registration district). If you want a copy of this record, you need to contact the GRO www.groireland.ie
Fill out their form and provide the year of death, registration district ( Ballymahon) and the volume and page number ( 3 and 12). Cost 4 euros.

Frederick:
I actually found two possible records and it would depend whether Catherine (Eliza) was a little older than her husband or a lot younger. The first record came from www.familysearch.org and the second from www.findmypast.ie which is a pay site. In any event, you can get one or both records from the GRO using the instructions in my first message. Good Luck!

Hello Roger,
I guess I forgot to give you Eliza, Catherines Vitals, her Father was John Clyne or Clines and her moter was Judith Muldary
She was born in 1845 in Listubbit, Ballymahon, Longford, Ireland
I know she was among the living in 1919 since that is the year that John and James Patten were sent to Currycreaghan after ther mother died. I have not had much success with Family Search in finding anything on my Grat Grand Patents from Ballynakill (Clonfert) Galway (Redden) or Freshford Kilkenny (Dowling) at least in Longford we know my 2nd Great Grandfather lived and died in Currycreaghan 1765- 1840 amd my cousin Eileen was able to send me a picture of the Headstone and he is listed on Griffiths', As for the Germans I am back to 1643 The catholic church digitized it's Parish Register some years ago
Best wishes
