I'm trying to find information about my great-grandparents, William O'Brien and Mary Flood.  I don't have much to go by and the dates are kind of sketchy.  I haven't been able to find much information about William, but this is what I found out:  William was born in Ireland around February 1870 and immigrated to the United States between 1888 and 1890.  I have not been able to find a birth or death certificate for him yet and don't know the names of his parents, nor what County he is from.  According to her death certificate, Mary was born on May 12, 1870 in County Longford.  Her parents names were Peter Flood and Ann Keegan.  Peter and Ann were also from County Longford.  Mary immigrated to the the United States between 1888 and 1890.  William and Mary lived in Mount Vernon, New York and raised 7 children: Anna (possibly Agnes), William Jr. (my grandfather), Mary (May or Mae), Daniel, Ethel, John Lester, and Francis.  Mary died in 1928.  This is all the information I have.  I would love to find out about other ancestors and relatives (living) as well as finding any additional information I can about William and Mary.

Thank you in advance for your help in trying to find about as much as I can about my Irish ancestors.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I checked Roots Ireland and Mary was baptized on August 2, 1868. See transcription below. The parish is shown as Forgney which I believe is the current parish of Drumraney. http://www.dioceseofmeath.ie/archive/parishes/drumaney.html  Mary had younger siblings Pat 1870 John 1872 Peter 1873 Ellen 1875 Stephen 1877 and Anne 1880. The townland on Mary's record and the last child Anne was Moyvore which is in Co. Westmeath across the border. So likely technically the family lived in Westmeath but their church was in Longford.

Without knowing info on parents of William O'Brien, there is no way to find his birth record.

My great grandfather was still living in the United States until his death in 1944. As far as I know of all of my family remained in the U.S.

  • Dee Dee,

    Coincidence???

I'm also searching for info on my great grand mother, Margaret Flood, born in 1862.  My grandmother used to say she was from Longford.

Margaret was born earlier than your g.g.mother Mary.  May have been cousins.  Who knows???

All the best with your research.  I haven't had results yet. :(

    Rgds.

  • Silvia,
Don't give up in trying to find your ancestors. It took me over a year find out anything about mine. As you said we might be related. If you can find out any more about Margaret we can compare notes and see if they match.
