I am looking for advice to continue my search for John Murtagh (Born: Abt. 1842-1846 and Died: Bef. 1924) in Cloonelly. I have found the family in the 1911 Census on the National Archives website. Three of the six children came to America and I believe the other 3 may have stayed in Ireland with or around the parents. What kind of online searches can I do for the timespan of 1911 to 1924 to find date of death? I did a search for birth on the Roots Ireland website and came up with 27 matches. Without knowing parent names to narrow the choices down it is expensive to look at each record. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can use www.familysearch.org to search for birth, marriage and death index records. Once you find a record that is promising, you have to write to the GRO www.groireland.ie to get a copy of the record. I went in and searched for John Murtaghs who died in the 1911-1924 period in the Longford registration district and found at least five possible records. I've copied one that is a possibility but you should search and make a determination. Roger McDonnell

Thanks, Roger. That helps a lot. I will look there. I also found some information last night in the Tithe books and found some names. It appears maybe two brothers with land next to one another. That narrows the names down quite a bit. Chris Murtha

Could this be him ? It's the only John Murtagh that matches the info. you gave.

I got this on Ancestry.com In order to get a copy of the death registration you will need to send this to the GRO .Hope this helps.

Christine,if you know names of John's siblings and the years they were born,it might help me establish the names of his parents.

Unfortunately, I am also unable to determine John's siblings. The only other thing I can think of is what would the nearest cemetery be to Cloonelly? Although, I have seen little of County Longford cemetery inscriptions online yet. Thank you for the information. I will try that.
