Old killoe Church burial information

Not sure if this helps. I found this description on Find A Grave.

Old Killoe Cemetery is located adjacent to St. Catherine Church, Killoe Glebe, County Longford. The church was erected in 1824 by the Church of Ireland, an autonomous affiliate of the Anglican Communion. There are two burial grounds on the site: a Protestant one to the south of the church, and a Roman Catholic one to the north which has recently undergone improvements.

Thank you Mary, very interesting. I spoke to Martin in the archives department in Longford and he said the graves inside the Church aren't logged in the Killoe booklet, and they are protestant so that explains why we found graves that weren't listed. A lot of my family are in the Catholic side which are in the killoe book but due to weathering are unable to read.

What are the names and approximate dates of birth/death of the people you are researching ?,

Review the booklet for any historical context or maps that may indicate the division of the cemetery. Sometimes these booklets include valuable notes about different sections.

Hi David,

Sorry for delay in replying. We were looking for the graves of Mary Anne Murphy and her Husband John Murphy and Andrew Murphy and Ellen Murphy, after speaking to a cousin we found out that one of their graves had the wrong headstone put on it, and the stone was removed and propped up against the wall, but never put on the correct grave. There were a few headstones against the wall but none with any writing on. We know most of our family are in that graveyard and we found two family graves, they looked totally unreadable but we managed to wash them down so we could read them, but we were confused as the graves should have been the last 2 near the wall but ended up being 3rd and 4th near the wall. But we were glad we found the two we did. Such a shame that there are so many graves with no headstones or unreadable, but it is an old graveyard on a hill that's battered by wind.
