I'm looking on getting any information on the McGuirk family from Brocklagh, Killoe. I've seen the census form and I'm looking for any more information on the family. The head of the family is Bridget. With her lived her son John, his wife Rose Ella, and their children John, Rose, Agnes, Frances, James and Mary. Bridget and Rose died between 1901 and 1911.

  • I located the civil death index record for Bridget and it appears she died in 1903. I could not locate a death index record for John. I also located the marriage index record for John McGuirk and Rose Farrell in 1890. You can get copies of these records from the General Register Office for approximately 4 euros each. The marriage record would show the names of the fathers of the bride and groom. Let me know if you plan to get copies and I will forward instructions.

    I live in the USA also (near Baltimore). The instructions for contacting the General Register Office are below. You have to mail the request but they will e-mail the copies. By the way, I noticed in the 1901 census record for the McGuirks a 10 year old grandson named William Farrell. Two houses over is a Patrick Farrell family with children starting at age 8. Possibly, Mary Anne was a sister to John McGuirk and Patrick Farrell was a brother to Rose Farrell, John's wife. Something to pursue.

    Go to this link http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx In the middle of the page there are links for birth, marriage or death certificates. Hit the link for the form you want. You will likely get a screen asking for a User Name and Password. (This is a program bug that the GRO has to correct). Hit cancel and the appropriate form should come up. Print the form and complete the requested information. Also provide the information from the index record--quarter/year of the event, registration district and the volume and page number where the event is recorded. Make sure you ask for a copy which costs around 4 euros. ( A cert costs closer to 20 euros). You can also ask the GRO to e-mail the copy back to you.
