Hello I'm sending this from Australia where my great grandfather William Coffey came to in 1854 from Co. Kildare, he settled in Melbourne, Victoria where he married Ann Lawlor and raised a family one of whom was my grandfather. I have his Marriage and Death certificate but have been unable to get a Birth certificate because it seems the records didn't start until after he was born in 1834/35, some of his siblings were born in Kill. It seems by about 1850 the family had moved to Flemington South.
William's father was William Coffey born about 1810/12 and his mother Jane Dunne born about 1812/16.
Children of William and Jane were
William B. 1834/5 Naas Kildare
Sarah B 1836 Naas Kildare
Margaret B. 1837 Naas Kildare
Jane Briget B. 1841 Forenaughts Kildare
Edward B. 1844
Frances B. 1846
William Coffey of 1810 is recorded on the Griffiths Valuation as being in Killashee, Flemington South and was a farmer.
It appears that Sarah came out to Australia on the same ship in 1854 on the Salem.
Margaret also came out and married Henry Ellis in 1858.
If anyone can help with infomation about the family or knows of any Coffey's in Co. Kildare I would be very grateful.
Thank you
Royla Healy nee Coffey

Hi Royla
The baptism records for Jane, Edward and Frances are available on Roots Ireland (www.rootsireland.ie). It is a subscription site but from the info you give it is a safe bet that thet are related to your ancestor so worth the few dollars to subscribe- they were baptised in Co. Kildare in 1841, 1844 and 1846. There is no sign of William though nor is there any record of a William Coffey and Jane Dunne mariage. See what you think though and decide if you can go from there.

You have outdone yourself this time. It is probably the best, most short step by step guide that I have ever seen.
