I am looking for connections to the Macken family in Ballygilchrist.  Before leaving for America in 1850-1851, my ancestors John and Julia (Hean/r/y) Macken were living with other Mackens in Ballygilchrist.  I know this from St. Mary's church records, where several of their children were baptized.  John may have died before the family left Ireland or died en route to America.  There is no record of the Macken/Hean/r/y marriage at St. Mary's, and there no record of the baptism of their oldest son Patrick (b: 1837).  Perhaps this branch of the Mackens were living elsewhere and moved to Ballygilchrist to live with relatives sometime between 1847 adn 1840.  Is there a likely parish/country from which they would have come to this parish? Are there records of the Ballygilchrist townland that would help?  I have seen the Griffiths Evaluation entries.  Thank you for the guidance.

You may want to look at the 1833 Tithe Applotment records for Co. Longford. www.titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie

There were 27 Macken records most in Granard parish and at least two in Ballygilchrist. There are likely duplicates if some farmer were leasing two different plots.
