My great great grandmother was born in or about 1802, according to her tombstone (haven't found a birth or baptism record yet). I had her name as Ellen Jane Hayes when she married John Lynden in 1836, but discovered last night that her marriage to my g-g-grandfather was a second marriage - so Hayes was her first husband's name, and her maiden name was Ross. Since she married in Clonguish I think she must have been from one of the four Ross households documented in Clonguish in 1825, but I don't know which one. Are there any Rosses here? Are there parish records online somewhere? She would have been COI, and christened either Ellen or Eleanor. Any tips you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Diane
I checked www.rootsireland.ie/ but the earliest Clonguish C of I baptisms are 1820 so no Ellen I'm afraid.
I double checked the RCBL website and their Clongish records only start in 1820 also.
The marriage record is on rootsireland but doesn't have her parents' names!

Well, thank you very much -- that's more information than I had; I hadn't found the marriage record! Wonderful. How kind of you to find it for me! Do we have any idea whose wife Eleanor Ross d.1820 was? I imagine "my" Eleanor may have been her daughter or granddaughter.
gratefully,
Diane

I couldn't find a marriage of a Ross to an Eleanor before 1815 I'm afraid.

There are several Ross households listed in Lisnaboe in 1825: Arthur, John, James, and at least one Robert (maybe two). Do you have any tips or ideas on how I might narrow it down and figure out which household might be a middle-aged to oldish man who lost his wife Eleanor in 1820? :) Or a son of said Eleanor and thus a brother to "my" Ellen/Eleanor? I know it's mostly guesswork at this point ... if it's any sort of clue, "my" Ellen/Eleanor named her third son with John Lynden "John Robert." Would that indicate that her own father's name was Robert??
Grateful for your help!
Diane

Second son was named after mother's father; third son was named after father (hence John).
Not sure how to narrow down the options other than by checking on ancestry to see if any of the others have been 'claimed' by another line.
I had a look at the early Irish Censuses but there were no Rosses or Hayes in Longford i'm afraid
