Rocklow House, McEncroe Family

I see there is a lot of information about John in the Australian Dictionary of Biography - this article has a decent bibliography too. If you wanted to learn more about any connection to the House you would have to undergo a study of those who owned it as it passed through various hands. Unfortunately there are not many easily accessed sources whereby you could do this online - I don't know, for example, if the Encumbered Estates records of the National Archives would be useful in this regard (they are not online).

The connection to the House may have been an emotional one rather than one that can be tied to a person, though perhaps one of his siblings or another family member worked there. Based on the small amount of information supplied by the Landed Estates Database, it doesn't seem that the family had a connection with the named owners. The National Library doesn't seem to hold much in connection with the House aside from some references to a photographic collection, the Poole collection and the commission of various photographic portraits by a Mrs Carroll. 

You could take a look at the names mentioned in the Landed Estates entry and research through The Peerage for example, who they were and who they married on the off-chance that a McEncroe connection appears. 

Another thing to remember is that 'Rocklow' is the name of a Tipperary townland in the civil parish of Rathcool. Ardshallagh is also in the civil parish of Rathcool. The second map attached below, shows the distance between the two places. You could argue that Ardsallagh was the home of Ardsallagh House and if he was to name his own house something it would be that rather than Rocklow?

Attached is a screen print of the townland showing within its boundaries Rocklow House. It is partly superimposed with the modern street map to give you some indication of the modern roads/places etc. Hugh Barton was the landlord in the 1850s and the tenant named as Benjamin Friend, again no connection that I can see.
