Hello. I found this website on a search off of Facebook. I hope i have the luck of the Irish with me. I am looking for my roots. My great grandfather , Patrick Tobin was born August  1857. I have a copy his birth/ baptismal record from this parish. Please help me. My grandmother Nora was one of his 10 children. I must have lots of third and fourth cousins. I will be coming over in late June  for 3 weeks with my children. i would love to connect with the Tobin family. God bless the Irish!!

  • My name is Jennifer Jean and I will try to find someone who may be aware of your family title and history: I will reply to you very shortly and hopefully before you leave for your holiday here in Ireland. Do you have an itenery as yet for your visit - where are you likely to be staying?

  • Hello Jennifer,

I am so grateful to get a reply. Originally I was coming the end of this month, but my oldest sister has been hospitalized. So I had to alter my plans. I will be arriving the 20th of October and leaving the 26th.I will be staying in  Virginia with close friend. I fell in love with Cong last year when I  visited Ireland . The Quiet man is my favorite movie, so I am

spending 2 nights in Ashford Castle..My children have off 16 days in December, so I may return then with them, if I find relatives.

I really appreciatte any information you can get me. I stumbled accross this website late one night. So glad I did though..

    Be well,

    Mary

  • Hi Mary

As you have Patrick Tobin's baptismal record could you tell us his parents names.

The names of all his children, his wife name and when they left Ireland.

I have been unable to find Tobin for Killeedy in Griffiths Valuation for 1852.

I really looking forward to hearing from you and help you with your query.

  • Hi Again

    Riddlestown is townland near Rathkeale.

Below is link of Maun's in 1852, maybe related to Bridget Maune, your great grandmother

    http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=doNameSearch&familyname=Maun&firstname=First+Name&baronyname=&countyname=LIMERICK&unionname=&parishname=&Submit.x=51&Submit.y=15

Here is maps of the area

    http://maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V1,533042,642168,4,3

Following on from your 1901 and 1911 census records which listed your Patrick Tobin living in Riddlestown with his family, by 1998 it appears there is no longer any Tobins owning land in the area according to the valuation office website. http://www.valoff.ie/search/search_summary.asp

What happened to the family after 1911 census. Did they all emigrate ?

    Regards

    Michael

  • Dear Michael,

I have just found my grandmother Nora's birth certificate. It is from St. Mary's in Rathkeale. I had a  tear in me eye. It was in with my parents papers.I also found her marriage license.  I just need her death cert from NY ..and with my birth cert, ect..I can apply for dual citizenship....I am so excited here 3300 miles away. I would still like to locate relatives, but this is a HUGE step in the right direction. God Bless you and the work you do to help people. I am coming in July for two weeks, cannot wait.

    Be well,

    Mary

  • Hello Mary:

My name is Maureen Morao and I live in Ontario Canada. My father passed away a few months ago at 91 and I had misplaced his wallet until today. Inside was a mass card for my grandmother (mothers side) Her name was Bridget Tobin born 1885 and died November 21, 1960 in Prospect Limerick.

My mothers name was Esther Tobin and after marriage Esther Burns.

    Goodness, could we be related?

    Maureen
