Roots Ireland www.rootsireland.ie has an 1857 baptismal record in Co. Limerick for a Sarah Bartman parents Joseph and Mary. I did not determine the parish.

Roots is a pay site to view a transcription of a church record. They recently changes their processes and you may have to purchase a one month subscription.

  • Hi Liz

The following births appear for the Parish of Kilflyn for the same parents,  The births are recorded at "Glenasheen" more commonly spelled Glenosheen these days.  This was one of the areas settled by Palatines who arrived from Europe on account of religious persecution and the name would suggest that this family is one of those.

    Joseph Bartman & Mary Legear/Leganeer M:30-Nov-1852

    Surname First Name Year
    Bartman Sarah Jane 1857
    Bartman Elizabeth 1855
    Bartman Julius 1854
    Bartman Anne 1853

Seventeen years previously in 1840, the Bartman's appearing on the Castle Oliver were as follows:

    Nr Townland FirstName LastName
    390 Glenasheen Jacob Barkman
    495 Ballyriggan Jacob Bartman
    496 Ballyriggan Ellizabeth Bartman
    503 Ballyriggan Hugh Bartman

This sort of suggests that the previous generation was headed by Jacob.  If you wished to follow this up, the complete set of rent books are kept in the National Library of Ireland so you could follow the occupancy in Glenosheen that way.

    Best wishes
