My great great grandmother Mary A. Hurley born circa 1853 (married name) came to Erie NY from Ireland. Her mother's  name was Ellen Taylor born circa 1825 in Limerick.

Mary A. Hurley had a daughter Mary Elizabeth who was born in Erie NY circa 1875.  She also had sons, George J, James Hurley, and two other daughters Loretta H, and Sarah

Wait, just found a census record that shows Mary A as being born in NY.  This does not jive with information from a later census, but is worth noting.  That said, it is possible that only Ellen Taylor was born in Ireland.

  • Hi Shannon

Thank you for sharing your information. Do you have have any information about where in Limerick Ellen was from? To find any records here it would be essential to find a place name of origin. : Do you know much about their emigration? The dates, the reason why they left, who they may have travelled with?..etc..Generally more information was given at the port of arrival rather than the port of departure which in your case is NY. This could be a good place to find more information. -And perhaps even find out an exact place of origin. Here are a list of websites that may help you further your research:
