I have spent years looking for the family of Ellen Heffernan who came to the US around 1843.  Not a single record found in the US documents where she was from in Ireland, nor can I find her immigration record.  Her obituary in 1916 states that she came to America at the age of 14 with her parents, but does not name them.  Her death certificate said she was born May 1829.

Her husband John O'Connor was from Killavullen, Cork and I have suspicions that she was from across the border in Limerick.  This is based on a potential brother Patrick whose marriage record in the US states Limerick.  But I haven't even confirmed he is a brother or just a cousin.

I am confident her mother was Bridget based on the naming of their first born daughter.  I am also confident that she had a brother Michael and sister Mary who were sponsors to the daughter.  Patrick lived in the same small town in Connecticut along with an Ann Heffernan who also lived in this small town in 1850 but married in 1851 to James Plunkett.

Hoping for a miracle but fully expecting to search the rest of my life for the Heffernan's !!!

    I looked at www.rootsireland.ie  for Ellen Heffernans born in 1829 in Co. Limerick. This is a "pay" site and they are currently having a 40% off discount which I assume reduces the cost to 3 euros per record. As you can see there were seven Ellens born in Co. Limerick 1829 +- 5 years. You may want to sign up and view the 1828, 1830 and 1831 records to see if you can find one with Bridget as the mother's name.
