Bridgman/Bridgeman and Ambrose families

would anyone know how my grandfather (James Bridgeman) would have got  from Ireland to New Zealand from between about 1911- 1915. I know he was in New Zealand on the 1 May 1915. He may have lived in Knocknaboula,Loughill, Co. Limerick as this was his mothers address. However in the 1911 census he was living at a house in 69 Main St, Glin and was an apprentice baker at a shop run by Francis Fitzgerald

Do you knw if Michael Bridgeman was the brother of Patrick Bridgman, born in the early 1840's, probably in Rathkeale?  Patrick married Mary Sullivan in Rathkeale in 1861 in Rathkeale.  They emigrated to Detroit, Michigan in the USA in the late 1860's.  I have been researching this family because I have been trying to determine if Mary was the sister of my great grandfather Timothy Sullivan.  I have also been researching the Ambroses from Ardagh because my great grandmother (Timothy's wife) was Ellen Ambrose, daughter of George Ambrose and Mary Collins.They were married in 1870 in Springfield, Illinois in the USA.

Hi there, unfortunatley i do not have any siblings for Michael Bridgman. I am still searching to find them. And unfortunatly i do not have any birth records of Michael. Only his marriage details naming his father, who was Patrick so it is highly likely he did have a brother named Patrick. But i have found a number of Patricks so have not been able to confirm which Patrick is the one i am looking for. Michael was born sometime between 1843 - 1859 so once again a likely hood of some connection. Strangely enough Michael had four wives and i am not sure what order they went in but one of them was a Margaret Sullivan. Once again i am still trying to find any confirmation and records.

As for the Ambrose family i have a Tithe book which shows the entire Ambrose family. The only thing is i could not find a George Ambrose who married a Mary Collins. If you could tell me George's parents i might be able to make the connection for you

Have since discovered lots  more since my last post. Michaels parents were Patrick BRIDG(E)MAN married to Bridget MORONEY. The children i have to date are as follows

Margaret chr 26 Jan 1840 Askeaton, Co Limerick

John chr 17 Apr 1841 Askeaton, Co Limerick

Catharine chr 29 Sept 1842 Askeaton, Co Limerick

Thomas chr 29 Mar 1846 Askeaton, Co Limerick

Cornelius or Patrick chr 1848 Askeaton, co Limerick

Bridget chr 21 Oct 1849 Shanagolden, Co Limerick

Anastatia born c 1850

Patrick chr 15 Jul 1855 Barracks, Co Limerick

Michael no birth record but from census & death records he may have been born between 1852 - 1859. He was full age on marriage records, 1901 census aged 42, 1911 census aged 60 and death records say he died 1921 aged 69.

Michael is my gt grandfather and i am trying to find the descendants of his siblings. Am taking a sideways look at my family history now to see if i can find these people and make connections to the Bridg(e)mans i have made contact with today's generations. I have looked at how the family names have followed the naming pattern which looks like that was how the above children were named. Based on that i have figured that maybe some of Patricks siblings were Bridget, Cornelius and Patrick with his parents being John & Catherine. But this needs to be proven. I have also learnt that Michael did not have four wives but on the record i was looking at it meant one of the women was his wife which i do know was Anastatia AMBROSE  from Ardagh

So my question is can anyone help me work sideways and discover who the above siblings married? Many thanks

I can suggest that you review the various parish registers in your area of interest in Co. Limerick which are now online registers.nli.ie  You may also want to get a one month subscription on Roots Ireland and also a subscription to FindMyPast.ie would also be helpful to identify civil index records for births, marriages and deaths.
