Hi

I'm looking for help tracing my ancestors from Belmullet. My GGG Grandfather John Mulgrew lived in Belmullet until his death between 1879 and 1887 although I have beeen unable to trace any record of death, his wife Jane Mulgrew (nee Ryan) died in the Belmullet workhouse in 1887. John & Jane had at least 3 children Patrick, Mary & John. Patrick my GG Grandfather married Margaret Caulfiled in Glasgow Scotland in 1871 and had 9 children (Mary; John; James:Patrick; Joseph: Michael; Jane: Sarah; Margaret) from 1871 to 1886, 7 born in Belmullet and the other 2 in Glasgow. I have managed to obtain death records for Patrick & Margaret and all of the children except John  & Joseph.

John & Janes other son John is found in the 1901 & 1911 Census in Corclogh and I know his family still lived in the town until 1930s but I lose the trail after this. Any help with filling in any of the gaps or tracing other relatives would be much appreciated

Regards

Allan

  • Allan,

I checked the cemetaries around Belmullet on goldenlangan.com/headstones but could not find anyone with the spellings Mulgrew/Mulgrue/McGrue. I also checked the Blacksod Sailings website http://www.blacksodbayemigration.ie/ and found three Bridget Mulgrue, aged 18, John no age & Honor no age. They all sailed to Quebec in 1883. Bridget sailed alone. No townland was given for these passengers nor final destination either.
