Hello,

I am looking for information regarding the origins of my 3x great grandmother, Bridget Ryan, b. abt. 1841, per the 1901 & 1911 censuses.  She married William Condon on 7 Feb 1863 in the parish of Emly.  The address given on the marriage record is Monemore.  Looking at the Griffith's Valuations for Monemore townland, I found both a John and a James Ryan.  Assuming one of them was her father, I have narrowed down a few possible baptismal records:

Bridget Ryan, b. 13 Sep 1840, parents John Ryan and Mary Russell, Co, Tipperary, Address Not Recorded.  Sponsors Edmond Dea and Ellen Ryan

Bridget Ryan, b. 5 May 1842, parents John Ryan and Mary Keefe, Co. Tipperary, Address Not Recorded.  Sponsors Thady Ryan and Nora Keefe

Bridget Ryan, b. 9 Apr 1847, parents James Ryan and Bridget Moloney, Co. Tipperary, Address Not Recorded.  Sponsors Patrick Ryan and Mary Barrett.

If anyone has knowledge of that particular area and those families, or if anyone has any advice on how to narrow down where my Bridget came from, I would be very grateful!

If it helps, sometime after her marriage, the family is found in Knocklong, Limerick, though Bridget's husband William seems to have come from Tipperary as well.  At some point, it appears they returned to Tipperary, and William died in Carrick-on-Suir.  After that, Bridget returned to live with one of her children in Knocklong, where she died at age 69.  Her husband was a shoemaker, and Bridget's occupation after his death was given as Shopkeeper.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Can you clarify where you obtained those records? Were they from Roots or online parish registers? Some of the RC parish registgers are not on Roots at this time>

    Hi Roger,

I did get them from rootsireland.  I had to select Limerick To be able to search in the parish of Emly, but it seems they recorded that the people were from Tipperary in the individual records.

  • Thanks to the free trial of indexed parish records at FindMyPast.com, I think I have located the correct record for Bridget.  The transcriptions at Roots apparently neglected to include residence information on some records, even if it did appear in the register.  I found the records I had previously found on Roots, saw that the townland was not Moanmore, and kept looking.  I found a Bridget Ryan, 19 Jan 1840, parents Timothy Ryan and Honora Henessy, residence Monmore.  Timothy Ryan also appears in the Griffith's Valuation.  This seems to be the best fit.
