I am a 2 x great-granddaughter of Thomas Commons/Cummins, and am looking for information on his family.
A baptism record for Thomas Cummins, 20 Jan 1839, shows Pat Cummins and Biddy Connell of Moanduff. Sponsors are Honora & John McGrath. [Irish Catholic Registers; Cashel & Emly; Doon & Castletown; 1824-1914]
I also found a baptism record for another son to Pat Cummins and Biddy Connell: John 6 Aug 1843 in Moanduff, Parish Doon, County Limerick. [rootsireland.ie]
I believe they also had a son Dennis.
I found civil death record for Bridget Cummins, 2 Nov 1892, in Moanduff, Parish Grean, County Limerick widow of laborer, informant was son John. [rootsireland.ie]
Thomas came to the US around the age of 20, leaving the rest of his family on Ireland, apparently. He settled in Boston, and married Alice Kennedy, also from Ireland (Co.Tipperary).
I have not located marriage records for Patrick and Bridget, nor a death record for Patrick. I would like to find out anything possible about the family and their lives in Ireland. I am coming to Co. Limerick in July, and would appreciate any leads on research I could do before or during my trip.

The marriage records for Doon parish start in 1839 http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0260 and if that was Bridget's parish likely the marriage record is not available.
I assume you located the 1901 and 1911 censuses for John Commins/Cummins and family and know that John died in 1909. His death record and Bridget's are below. I also see a death index record in the Tipperary registration district for a Patrick Cummins age 60 who died in 1868. The images for 1868 deaths are not available at this time (images start in 1891). The Tipperary registration district is large so this could also be a different Patrick Cummins. Also, it is possible that your Patrick died before civil registration began in 1864.

Wow, thank you, Roger! I had not seen that census information, and did not know anything about John's family. I believe you may be right about the death record you found for Patrick from 1868. Since the images are not available online, is there a location I can go to when I am in Ireland in July to see the physical register? Thanks again, Eileen

You have two options. You can write to the GRO and request a copy of the record. Cost will be about four euros (roughtly five dollars). They can e-mail the copy back. The record shows the date of death, location, cause of death, informant and usually relationship to deceased, age provided by informant. You should get the copy in 2-3 weeks. I can provide instructions.
The other option is to visit the GRO and here is the location details and other specifics.

Not sure if you are staying in North Dublin or South Dublin but Werburgh St. is in South Dublin not far from Dublin Castle. I just got back from Dublin and I was not too far from the area.
