Looking for information on ancestors and descendants of John Sheehy, would lived in either Clonkeen or Doon parish during mid to late 1800's. Believe his father was named Richard Sheehy from Cooga, Doon amd that he had 2 wives that were sisters with surname of Walsh. My GGmother Anne was one of several children he had.

I'm trying to locate birth, marriage and burial records on John and his Walsh wives, his siblings or his descendants in Clonkeen or Doon parish.  I've located a few Sheehy's that I believe to be his relations buried in St Fintans cemetery in Doon. I'm still trying too locate burial information for my GGrandmother Anne Sheehy, who married Patrick Costello of Glengar.

Any information would be helpful! Thanks.

I looked at John Sheehy marriage index records in the Limerick registration district which includes Clonkeen parish. There was one record in 1873 where a John Sheehy married and one of the potential spouses on the page was Catherine Walsh. Was Catherine one of the two Walsh sisters? I also notticed in the 1901 census for Cooga Lower townland a Richard Sheehy and his family. I wondered if this Richard was a son of John and grandson of the elder Richard?

  • Hi Roger,

Thanks for your prompt response. I'm not sure about the John Sheehy you note. He could be related. Believe John was married around mid 1800's, first to Mary and then to Bridget Walsh. I think he died towards end of 1800's, but I haven't been able to locate his burial record.

Richard was a some of John, as was Henry (which I believe is also listed in census). They were brothers of my GGrandmother Anne Costello (nee Sheehy) and are both buried in St Fintan's cemetery in Doon parish. I haven't been able to locate Anne's burial record, though I was able to locate her son (Dick Costello) in St Fintans as well.

Would you happen to know how I might go about locating burial information, without knowing exact dates or places? Would the parish or church have such records?

    I would contact the church.

I found two Richard Sheehy death index records, The first one may be the son of John and the second record could be the father of John.

  • I have had a look in out local records which would have included clonkeen , there are very few Sheehy in the records. only 5 baptisms recorded - various years- and no marriages by this name recorded in Murroe.

Have you look at the records from Doon , I would say it it likley they recorded in Doon.

I did come acorss this headstone , while researching - I dont know if they are the ones you are looking for??

The burial records vary from parish to parish , you would need to contact the parish priest , they hold the burial records if they have any!

Hope this helps and if you have any questions , let me know if you have any questions.

  • Thanks ?ine!

I did locate some Sheehy and Costello burials in St Fintan's cemetery in Doon.

I've contacted Very Rev. Tony Ryan, PP, Doon, Co. Limerick  to see whether he may be able to assist.

    Kind Regards,

    Silvia Gibbons

P.S. Not sure whether the gravestone you located is same family, but thanks so much for providing the information!
