I am looking for more information about Susanna St. John, my 2nd gt grandmother. She was born, I believe in Adare in 1823 (probably). Her mother was I believe Anne Shier (1797-?) and possibly Philip St. John (1791-?).
Susanna married James Allison (1814-1891) at St Nicholas church in Adare on 26 November 1844. She and James had six children between 1847 and 1857 while living in Farneigh, Co Tipperary.
Any information about her birth (and her parents) will be more than helpful.

The Adare Church of Ireland baptismal records start in 1826 too late for a record for Susan. I did find a baptismal record on the subscription site Roots Ireland for her younger sister Mary. Born February 12 1828 and baptized March 16 1828. Church was the C of I church in Adare. Father Philip St. John and mother shown as Anne.
I also located a marriage record August 10 1848 at the Adare C of I church for an Elias St. John from Adare who married a Teressa Musgrave also from Adare. The father of Elias was Philip so possibly Elias was a brother to Susan.

It would appear that Elias and his wife Teresa had a son who they called after his father https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:F5T1-PJC

Thanks for that Roger.
I think that that information about Elias' marriage helps to prove something I have been troubled by for the last few days. The tree I have been referring to (not mine) was showing Elias to be the son of Philip St John and Nancy Ann Baker who migrated to Ontario in 1817. As Nancy Ann was born in 1763, it would be questionable that she would have had any child at the age of 60 or more, making Elias and Mary the children of another Philip St John and Anne Shier who seem to both have remained in Adare.
I will question the author of this other tree to see what he has to say.

I have now found Susanna's death certificate which shows that she died on 23 Apr 1884 in Farneigh, Tipperary as reported by her son Henry. She was recorded as being 68 years of age, which means that she was born not in 1823, but in 1816.

The above book may given some insight into the St Johns

Thanks for the reference. I already do have access to Hank Z Jones treatise via my Ancestry subscription, and have studied all the sections relating to St. John, Teskey, Baker, and Shier families.
