My grandmother Honora Woulfe immigrated from Limerick around 1900 to NYC. I believe her father's name was James Woulfe and mother elizabeth, Honora or Ellen. She is said to have had a brother Ja=mes and a cousin, Helen Fitzpatrick. Not much to go on but would like to trace this ancestry further back. Thanks for any suggestions.

  • This family in the 1901 census might fit some of the information you have given:

     Same household in 1911:

I see a Honoria Woulfe birth registered Jan – Mar 1882 Newcastle, Volume 5, page 564. Can’t say whether it’s the right family but it might fit.

Elwyn, Thank you for this information. The age of Honoria Woulfe b. 1882 in Newcastle may indeed by a match. How can I access this birth registration?

  • You can order a photocopy of the certificate from GRO Roscommon for €4 (euros).  http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx

You have to download and print off the form. Then either post or fax it back to them. You can’t e-mail it to them. However if you want them to e-mail the cert to back to you, they will do that, so tick the relevant box.

Put the reference details on the form (anywhere). Don’t worry about leaving some boxes blank. As long as GRO have the location, name(s), year, quarter (where there is one), volume and page number they should find it.
